Description
A rare sight now, dependable 1.9 diesel power; edgy, boxy 90's styling
that's dated well - an oddly cool thing from long term 19 year ownership
Supplied new by David Hiam Limited of Birmingham in
August 1994, this rather cool looking Citroen Xantia is finished in black and
sits on its original 14” steel wheels with hubcaps and looks to have remained in
good order for its age.
The car has been with
our long term owner vendor since his purchase in March 2004 since when he’s used
the car frequently although much less so in recent years hence it is offered for
sale at No Reserve here today and was driven some 170 miles to us from North
Devon.
Under the bonnet, we find the dependable
1.9 litre 8-valve XUD9B naturally aspirated diesel engine which gave sufficient
performance and unrivalled reliability and economy with its 68bhp and 120NM of
torque driving the front wheels via five-speed manual
transmission.
Being a Citroen, it is of course
quirky, and that means it goes up and down on its Hydropneumatic suspension
offering great comfort and versatility which looks to work as it should when we
tested it. It was also was the last
Citroën to use a common hydraulic circuit for suspension, brakes and steering
like the pioneering Citroën DS.
The car shows 132,195 miles and looks
to have worn these well with minimal signs of age/wear with comfortable seating
and but a few marks to the body/paint as expected for its type/age/miles etc as
pictured. We note fitment of a
rocker switch for the engine start, ignition operated by the key, with engine
start by the rocker switch in the centre console.
The history file includes the V5C recording four former keepers to
our vendor, the owner’s pack with manuals and service book showing 13 stamps inc
PDI plus four further hand written entries, six old MOTs, current MOT valid
until March 2024 with no advisories recorded and a selection of historic
maintenance bills.
Ideal for some economical
motoring French style with comfort and economy. On offer at No Reserve, the
highest bid takes it home, which we think is ideal, given 1.2 million were
built – when did you last spot one on the road?
